Effective Diffusion Matrices via Fokker—Planck—Kolmogorov Equations and Beyond
Abstract
We will discuss some recent progress in numerical homogenization of equations in nondivergence-form. For periodic rapidly oscillating coefficients, we provide a numerical scheme for the approximation of effective diffusion matrices based on a finite element approximation of Fokker—Planck—Kolmogorov equations with possibly discontinuous coefficients. Beyond the periodic setting, we present a numerical homogenization scheme for unstructured coefficients based on the methodology of localized orthogonal decomposition.
