Abstract

Recently, active/passive solar energy harvesting systems are installed on houses in earthquake zones. The impacts of earthquake on solar houses should be assessed as some of the facilities are relatively new. For example, when both sun light and earthquake are present simultaneously, solar PV modules may still produce electricity while the electrical wires are short-circuited. In this research, various simulations are carried out via Finite Element Methods such as Abaqus to systematically study the impacts. A case study is detailed for 80 m2 solar houses inspired by Solar Decathlon 2015 US competition to be held in California.
